Enjoy the ride: Astro-update for the week of May 5th, 2025

Kicking off with shadow work – Pluto retrograde station sextile Venus

This is a potentially shadowy Monday morning – with Pluto in Aquarius making a sextile to Venus and Neptune in Aries. Venus and Neptune were conjunct during the second half of last week – and what I personally observed was a lot of really frenetic energy and a feeling of not having enough focus. With these two planets in Aries, physical activity seems like one really good way to burn off those scattered sensations, so I’ve been taking lots of walks and trying to savor the beauty of Taurus season.

Over this past weekend, Pluto, planet of buried treasure, power, and shadows, stationed retrograde. This is a twice-per-year event, and it makes Pluto’s energy more intense – which was definitely palpable for me over the past few days. So if you’ve been processing issues or memories from the past – that’s definitely on brand for this moment, and it’ll last through this coming Wednesday or so.

New connections, info, and ideas with Mercury sextile Jupiter

Meanwhile, today we also have Mercury in Aries making a sextile to Jupiter in Gemini. Mercury rules Gemini – so this quick Mercury-Jupiter connection, which will last today and tomorrow, is apt to gift us with unexpected social connections, information, or ideas.

Jupiter’s story gets a new chapter

Jupiter has been off our radars for a while, but it’s coming back in force this week, because it’s also slowly working its way toward a t-square with the fateful Lunar Nodes, which will be exact a week from Thursday. If you’ve been listening to the podcast for a while, I know you’ve heard me say that Jupiter in Gemini is a little unpredictable. Usually we look at Jupiter as the planet of optimism, expansion, and blessings, but in Gemini it’s been feeling a little disappointing at times, like bubbles that suddenly pop or seeds that never sprout. So if that’s been an ongoing story in your life this past year – this coming week may bring a new chapter or a plot twist. On Wednesday, the Moon will swing through Virgo and conjoin the South Node, punching up the energy on this transit, so be on the lookout for movement in this area around mid-week.

And, good news, in just a month Jupiter will be moving on into Cancer, one of its favorite signs. Jupiter in Cancer is all about generosity – so if its trip through Gemini has made you a little guarded, you can look forward to a more open-hearted vibe come summer.

Mercury square Pluto for some weekend shadow work

By the weekend, we’ll be back to our shadow work, with Mercury moving into Taurus in the early morning hours on Saturday, and squaring Pluto until Monday. Taurus is a sign that taps into the wisdom of the body, where much of our subconscious memories are held – so it’ll be a good time to pay attention to words, random thoughts, and sensations that crop up, and if you can, talk them over with your trusted ones. It’ll also be a time to make sure you’re caring for your body by giving it lots of rest and nourishing food.

Scorpio Full Moon opposite Uranus – expect the unexpected!

Finally, on Saturday afternoon, the Moon will enter Scorpio, beginning this season’s Full Moon – which will be at its maximum on Monday morning. Scorpio is the sign of passion and intensity, and this Full Moon is opposing unpredictable Uranus, so it’s a doubly-good weekend to be taking good care of your body, and making sure you’re feeling grounded and stable so you can absorb any lightning bolts that come your way.

This week’s theme: “Enjoy the ride”

It’s a week when we can expect the unexpected, and with spring in the air, it might feel like things are moving fast – and that could get a little scary. So the theme for this week is, “Enjoy the ride.” We may find ourselves in a few free-falls this week, but, like being on a roller coaster, falling can sometimes be fun.
