We can all take a deep breath this Monday morning, because this week’s astrology is not nearly as dramatic as it has been for the past month or so. A lot of us have today off for the Memorial Day holiday, so if that’s you, I hope you’re using it to rest and recoup.
A chatty, information-oriented New Moon in Gemini, with Mercury in the mix too
And the “reset” vibes will really hit today around midday, with the Moon moving into Gemini and conjoining the Sun for our monthly New Moon, which is always a good time to allow yourself extra space to process, let things go from the past month, and seed new ideas or endeavors. When this chatty, information-oriented New Moon hits its maximum around 8pm Pacific Time tonight, it’ll be pretty close to Gemini’s ruler Mercury – so this is a lunation with the potential to give us deep insights and gift us with new data that could help move our story in a different direction.
Mercury cazimi on Thursday: a solar storm of mental activity
On Thursday evening, we’ll also have Mercury moving up to conjoin the Sun for what’s called a “cazimi.” The Sun is a powerful force, the one that literally makes life on Earth possible, so when we add that to the planet of thought and communication, we often get what feels like a solar storm of mental activity. That can be a good thing, bringing us even more opportunities for insight, but it can also be a little much, especially if you’re like me and have strong Mercury energy in your chart already. So when cazimis happen I actually sometimes find I have to tune out for a bit – and you should also do whatever works best for you.
Background energy: Saturn and Neptune in Aries bring us opportunities for bravery, commitment, and discipline
In the background, since this past Saturday, we’ve also now got Saturn in Aries, just one degree away from Neptune, which also entered Aries just a couple of months ago. Saturn has a cycle of 28 to 30 years, and it last entered Aries in April of 1996.
As I mentioned last week, I’m picturing this Saturn as a heavy cloak of chain mail that we’re all wearing around our shoulders as we embark on a perilous – yet exciting – journey into the unknown. It’s a heavy energy that makes each step feel arduous, but by the end of this three-year Saturn in Aries era, we’re going to find that we’ve built some really supportive muscles.
With Saturn currently conjoining Neptune, we’re also getting a heavy dose of hero complex. So it’s good to remember that while jumping in and saving others can be a good thing, it’s also possible that our wish to play the good guy can be misplaced.
Jupiter will soon change its vibe from unstable to generous!
The other big transit that was active over the past couple of weeks was Jupiter in Gemini squaring the Lunar Nodes. With Jupiter in the sign of its detriment, the energy was a little shaky, with a lot of tests of our confidence. Now Jupiter is quickly moving on towards its exalted sign of Cancer – which it will enter in exactly two weeks, with a couple of encounters with Mercury along the way. So I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the challenges we’ve been facing in the Gemini- or Jupiter-ruled areas of our charts start to make more sense and become more resolved over the coming days.
This week’s theme: “Information and integration”
So the theme for this week is “information and integration.” Whether it’s a direct, clear insight or just a feeling of things falling more into place, I am hoping that this coming week will bring a sense of greater peace and maybe even a little more hope for the future. I know the world has felt very heavy and dark for a lot of us over the past few months, and with summer on the way, I’m looking forward to at least a little ray of sunshine.
