Relax and breathe: Astro-update for the week of March 10th, 2025

The Moon is in effervescent Leo this Monday morning, just one sign away from Virgo, where we’ll have a total lunar eclipse later this week.

Sun conjunct Saturn: reminders of restructuring

But before we get to that, for the first half of the week we’ve got the Sun conjoining Saturn in Pisces, our big rock under the ocean. Saturn has been hanging out in Pisces since March of 2023 – where it has been steadily working under the surface to help us to identify and replace structures in our lives that are in need of a remodel. So whatever that cluster of issues has looked like for you, the first half of the week may cause them to rise to the surface in some way.

Mercury conjunct Venus Rx: communication and relationship themes

Over the first half of this week we’ve also got Mercury, planet of thought and communication, conjoining Venus, planet of relationships and desires, in fiery Aries. I don’t know about you, but I’ve already been seeing plenty of examples of that impulsive and hot Aries energy come out around me this past week – and it’s hitting especially hard on our closest relationships.

Lunar eclipse in Pisces: expect the unexpected and let go of control

Both Saturn and Mercury will be playing roles in the big event of the week: a Full Moon total eclipse in the fastidious yet flexible sign of Virgo, which will be happening on Thursday night close to midnight Pacific Time. This eclipse will be visible from everywhere in North America, so if you’re lucky enough to have clear skies that night, I hope you’re able to get out and enjoy the sight.

In astrology, eclipses signify beginnings and endings – chapters opening and closing in our lives. Sometimes they’re obvious, like a breakup or the end of a job. Other times, they’re invisible seeds that get planted without us even realizing it. And I’ve found also, that sometimes eclipse themes involve effort, like a new endeavor, project, or way of being in the world, and at other times the changes happen effortlessly, with things simply falling into place, or naturally dying out on their own.

Though it’s hard to say for sure, this eclipse is likely to be in the latter category – with things happening that are out of our control. Especially because it’s taking place in a close aspect with unpredictable and electric Uranus in Taurus.

The Full Moon will be almost directly opposite Saturn, as well, so themes of structure, endurance, grief, time, and maturity will also be looped in.

Virgo is ruled by Mercury, and not only is Mercury currently in the independent and energetic sign of Aries, and conjunct our retrograde Venus, but Mercury is also about to station retrograde on Friday, too.

So relationship and communication issues will likely be front and center, and with both of these personal planets retrograde over the next few weeks, those themes may linger on through the next eclipse, which comes on March 29th.

Mercury retrograde begins on Friday

By noon on Friday, the Moon will be moving on into diplomatic Libra, but that means it’ll also be almost directly opposite Mercury that night when Mercury stations retrograde – so the end of the week may still require us to take a few deep breaths.

Theme for the week: “relax and breathe”

So the theme for this week is, “relax and breathe.” I know that sounds a little cheesy, but it’s what my daughter’s first grade teacher said in every email she sent during that first year of COVID, and there’s a lot about this week that feels similar to that time. Things in the world feel very dark and unpredictable, and we have almost zero control over what might be coming our way. With this lunar eclipse being in Pisces, it’s a great time to try to go with the oceanic flow.
