Astro update for the week of Feb. 24th, 2025

We have a New Moon in Pisces this week!

The Moon is in the later degrees of earthy Capricorn on Monday, and it’ll be making its way through Aquarius during mid-week before beginning our Pisces New Moon on Thursday.

New Moons are times for letting things go, tying things up, and resetting – but in this case we’re also going to be feeling some pre-eclipse vibes. We have a lunar eclipse happening in two weeks, at the next Full Moon, followed by a solar eclipse on the next New Moon. So don’t be surprised if you are starting to sense some chapters opening and closing in your life. Eclipses are times when things tend to begin and end.

This week’s Pisces New Moon will be square to Pisces’ ruler Jupiter – giving us the urge to dream big, but also potentially helping us see where we’re limited. If you’ve been listening to the podcast for a while, you know that Saturn has been hanging out in Pisces for the past two years, and I’ve been describing it as a big rock under the ocean. Saturn represents time, endurance, heaviness, and limits. So despite the expansive influence of Jupiter, this New Moon may show us ways that we need to slow down.

Mercury moves through Pisces

And we might be feeling those Saturnian themes already today, as Mercury, planet of thought and communication, conjoins Saturn in Pisces. At mid-week Mercury will move on to make quick sextile to unpredictable and electric Uranus in Taurus, and then finally at the end of the week it’ll conjoin the North Node and Neptune – which are still closely entwined in the last degrees of Pisces.

So it’s also a very dreamy week – one where we might be getting flashes of insight or inspiration, but also one that might require extra naps.

Mars is direct and Venus isn’t retrograde…yet

There is a little more of a sense of forward momentum in the background, as we have Mars finally moving forward again after stationing direct in Cancer yesterday. Mars in Cancer is in what’s called “fall” – it’s opposite to its exalted sign of Capricorn. So in Cancer, it’s a little extra crabby.

Now we also have Venus in Aries, which is opposite to its home sign of Libra – and it’s going to be stationing retrograde on Saturday.

Both Venus and Mars play roles in how we relate to others and to the world – so think of this week as a little oasis of calm between some emotional storms. For all of March and half of April, Venus will be asking us to reconsider how we navigate independence and interdependence.

The theme for this week: “release your expectations”

That’s why the theme I’m setting for this week is “release your expectations.” As we embrace this beautiful Pisces New Moon, it’s a great time to prioritize rest, avoid pushing too hard on anything, and just let the universe reveal whatever it’s going to reveal. If you’re like me, that’s easier said than done – so this is a challenge to all of us who like to plan, prepare, and have everything organized – to let things be a little messier than usual, so that they can re-emerge more beautifully later.
